Central Bank Commits to Providing Foreign Currency for Return to Khartoum

The Finance Committee of the Higher Committee for Preparing the Environment for Citizens’ Return to Khartoum state reaffirmed the government’s focus on essential services, infrastructure, and security as priorities to ensure the safe resettlement of residents. It also confirmed ongoing efforts to secure the necessary funding in line with the state’s financial position.

During a Sunday meeting chaired by Finance Minister Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, with Central Bank Governor and the Finance Ministry Undersecretary in attendance, the committee reviewed progress on financial performance and funding for the restoration of essential services—public health, sanitation, clean drinking water, education, electricity and solar power, rehabilitation of main roads and bridges, and the reconstruction of Khartoum International Airport—alongside security measures to re-establish state authority.

The Central Bank of Sudan pledged to provide foreign currency through commercial banks to cover imports required for these priorities, in addition to ensuring continued local financing based on available resources. The committee includes representatives from the Audit Bureau, Accounts Chamber, Economic Security, Khartoum state, and other relevant agencies.
