Police: 70,000 Refugees Registered in Khartoum

The official spokesperson for the police forces and head of the media committee for maintaining security and upholding state authority in Khartoum State, Brigadier General of Police Fath Al-Rahman Mohamed Al-Toum, announced that the committee tasked with evacuating the capital of refugees and undocumented foreigners has recorded 70,000 refugees within Khartoum State.

He added, according to the police press office on Sunday, that 38,000 foreigners will be voluntarily repatriated to their countries, while refugees will be relocated to camps outside urban areas that are equipped to receive them. So far, 3,700 foreigners have already been deported.

He also revealed a ban on the use of motorcycles within the state, prohibiting their refueling, and noted that joint patrol forces had seized 3,000 violating motorcycles.

The police spokesperson explained that the committee tasked with removing vehicles and remnants of war had collected 417 vehicles in Bahri locality. Their owners will be identified by the General Traffic Department and officially notified to reclaim them in accordance with the applicable legal and procedural regulations.

He confirmed that the committee for removing informal settlements continues its work after identifying 72 such clusters across the state’s localities. So far, 36 informal settlements have been dismantled, most notably Souq Sitta in Haj Yousif and Shambat Port.
