Sudan’s Civil Defense evacuated more than 500 families from Wad Ramli, north of Khartoum, after floods swept the area on Tuesday. Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that floodwaters submerged several homes, warning of rising risks.
The report noted local youth initiatives to build sand barriers to block water from entering houses, though limited resources constrain such efforts.
The Sudanese News Agency said Khartoum’s acting executive director, Kamal Awad al-Karim, inspected vulnerable areas along the White and Blue Nile—including Rumaila, al-Azouzab, Daajib, and Tuti.
Awad al-Karim assured residents that the situation remained stable “unless new developments arise,” stressing readiness to respond through the local flood emergency system. He urged residents to immediately report any rise in Nile water levels to emergency authorities to minimize flood damage.
