Standards Authority Hands Over Gold Held Before the War

Sudan Events – Rahab Abdullah
Former head of the Goldsmiths, Jewelers and Gold Exporters Division, Atef Ahmed, disclosed that Sudan’s Standards and Metrology Authority (SSMO) Director General, Rahba Saeed, has handed over to gold companies their gold holdings that had been deposited for testing prior to export before the war.
Ahmed told Al-Ahdath that the gold was stored in the SSMO Tower in Khartoum. Although seven floors of the tower were burned by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the section containing the gold was spared.
He explained that the Director General formed a committee that, with security and intelligence escorts, transported the gold to Port Sudan, where it was re-examined. He added that gold belonging to Al-Junaid Company was separated and reverted to state ownership, while private and corporate holdings were returned to their owners through official committees.
Ahmed extended gratitude to the Director General on behalf of the gold companies, praising her persistence and sleepless nights until the gold was safely returned. He also thanked the committees involved, saying: “We take pride in the tremendous effort undertaken by the SSMO Director.”
