Sudan Takes Part in African Mining Week in South Africa

A Sudanese Ministry of Minerals delegation immediately joined proceedings at the African Mining Week, known as the “Mining Indaba” Conference, upon arriving in Cape Town, South Africa. The event is one of the world’s largest gatherings dedicated to the mining industry.
Sudan’s participation was warmly received in recognition of its prominent position on Africa’s mining map. The head of the delegation, geological consultant Ahmed Haroun Al-Tom, Director General of the Geological Research Authority, stressed that the conference’s objectives align with Sudan’s plans to develop its mining sector. These include strengthening cooperation between nations and companies, exchanging expertise and technical knowledge, showcasing investment opportunities, and addressing challenges through sustainable solutions.
Al-Tom noted that this year’s conference focuses on mineral exploration and development, the application of modern mining technologies, sustainability principles, and corporate social responsibility, alongside discussions on promising investment opportunities.
The Sudanese delegation includes both technical and regulatory arms of the ministry, represented by the Geological Research Authority and the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company. The latter was represented by Assistant Director-General for Technical Affairs, geological consultant Osman Suleiman Hamad.
