Khartoum and Juba Agree to Continue Cooperation in the Oil Sector

Sudan’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer and Advisor Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim, reaffirmed the importance of maintaining oil pipelines, pumping stations, and processing facilities despite current challenges, during a meeting in Khartoum with South Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mondai Simaya Kumba on Sunday.
He confirmed the continuation of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of oil and energy and emphasized the importance of preserving and developing shared infrastructure.
The meeting discussed ongoing coordination in energy cooperation, power interconnection, technical problem-solving, and capacity building through joint training programs. The South Sudanese minister extended an invitation for his Sudanese counterpart to visit Juba in the near future.
Both sides also explored opportunities for joint investment promotion and enhanced collaboration between national companies in the two countries.
Dr. Mohy El-Din Naim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy, stressed the importance of coordination across all energy-related sectors.
Sudan’s Ambassador to Juba, Issam Karrar, described the visit as historic, being the first by South Sudan’s foreign minister since the outbreak of the war. He praised the strong spirit of brotherhood and broad cooperation between the two nations across multiple fields.
