Violent Militia Shelling Targets El Fasher

Military and civilian sources reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, on Friday using heavy artillery and drones.

Sources said the RSF intensified random attacks on residential neighborhoods and camps, resulting in numerous civilian casualties. Field sources told Altra Sudan that the shelling hit various areas of the city, targeting homes, markets, hospitals, and displaced persons’ shelters. The full scale of human and material losses is yet to be determined.

The ongoing bombardment has exacerbated humanitarian suffering and endangered civilian lives amid extremely difficult security and humanitarian conditions.

Meanwhile, El Fasher witnessed intense clashes between the army and the RSF on Thursday night in the city’s southern and northern sectors. Sources reported that the army launched an attack on RSF positions, inflicting losses in personnel and equipment.

The operation aimed to expand the armed forces’ defensive perimeter, reclaim strategic locations, and counter the RSF’s recent attacks. According to sources, the army’s strike destroyed combat vehicles and drone platforms and neutralized suicide and attack drones targeting civilians and military sites in recent weeks.
