Agricultural Bank Reaffirms Support for Gezira Scheme Farmers

The General Manager of the Agricultural Bank, Engineer Abdullah Al-Hassan Mahmoud, affirmed that the bank issued its financing policy for the current winter season early, instructing its branches to begin disbursing funds immediately based on available resources and inputs.

Speaking at the bank’s headquarters in Port Sudan during a meeting with a delegation from the Gezira Scheme Farmers’ Initiative, led by Modawi Al-Sheikh Al-Toum, Mahmoud said the bank is working diligently to secure agricultural inputs such as seeds and fertilizers in coordination with relevant authorities to ensure the success of the 2025–2026 winter season.

He added that all the bank’s branches in the Gezira sector have resumed operations after being rehabilitated and reopened this year, following the looting and destruction they suffered during the war. Mahmoud reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to financing farmers in the Gezira Scheme, highlighting its crucial economic role and ongoing consultations with the scheme’s governor, Ibrahim Mustafa Ali.

The farmers’ delegation expressed full confidence in the Agricultural Bank, calling for financial support to replace agricultural machinery that was looted during the incursion of rebel militias into Gezira State in late 2023.
