Erdogan Joins the Camp of Peace in Sudan

Sudan Events – Agencies

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has said that the ongoing internal conflict in Sudan deeply pains his country, stressing that Turkey is closely monitoring developments and working to help secure an immediate ceasefire — paving the way toward lasting peace and comprehensive stability in the country.

A Consistent Humanitarian and Political Stance from Ankara

Erdoğan emphasized that Turkey views Sudan as a brotherly nation and a strategic partner, and therefore cannot remain silent in the face of the suffering inflicted on the Sudanese people by the war. He affirmed that Ankara stands ready to provide all possible forms of assistance to help overcome the crisis — both through humanitarian aid and diplomatic and political efforts.

The Turkish president underscored that the current priority is to halt the fighting and create a safe environment for dialogue among Sudanese parties. He warned that continued clashes would only bring more destruction and suffering, adding that a military solution cannot deliver the stability Sudan desperately needs.

Repeated Turkish Calls for Peace in Sudan

Erdoğan’s remarks align with Turkey’s long-standing position since the outbreak of the war, consistently calling for dialogue and the triumph of reason and national interest in Sudan. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has previously issued several official statements urging an immediate cessation of hostilities and the launch of comprehensive negotiations leading to a lasting political settlement that safeguards Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.

Ankara has also reiterated on multiple occasions its readiness to mediate between Sudanese factions, in coordination with neighboring countries and regional organizations — such as the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) — as well as the United Nations, in pursuit of a balanced formula to end the protracted armed conflict.

Sudan at the Heart of Turkish Attention

Sudan and Turkey share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and economic ties, and in recent years their relationship has seen growing cooperation in areas such as development, investment, education, and healthcare. Erdoğan affirmed that Turkey regards Sudan as a key nation in Africa, and that its stability serves the interests of the entire region.

He also noted that Ankara is closely following the worsening humanitarian crisis in Sudan, with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Turkish Red Crescent actively providing aid and relief to civilians affected by the conflict. Erdoğan stressed that supporting the Sudanese people is a moral duty before it is a political commitment.
