Sudan and the World Bank Reach Understandings

Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mohamed Nour Abdel Daim, met with Sheila Braka Musiime, Deputy General Counsel of the World Bank Group, to discuss recent developments in Sudan and the impact of the ongoing war. The talks also addressed the extensive destruction that has affected the country’s infrastructure.

The Minister reviewed the government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for citizens to return to their areas and to launch reconstruction projects, particularly in the health, water, and education sectors. He outlined Sudan’s development needs and priorities, calling for the World Bank’s support within its financing mechanisms to help fund infrastructure projects that serve citizens. He also pointed to the severe financial and economic consequences of the war.

For her part, the Deputy General Counsel called on the Sudanese delegation to provide the necessary data assessing the institutional capacity to implement projects amid the large-scale infrastructure damage. Such data, she said, is crucial in evaluating Sudan’s ability to absorb support at a time when humanitarian crises and destruction are intensifying.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaching understandings on strengthening ties between Sudan and the World Bank through the ongoing reform process and progress toward achieving peace.
