
On Friday, AU Commissioner Ama Twumasi, responsible for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social Development, arrived in Port Sudan as part of a delegation led by Nigeria’s ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union, under the Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees, and IDPs. The visit aims to assess humanitarian conditions and determine urgent needs.
Sudan’s Deputy Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Al-Hafiz Isa Abdullah, told Sudan News Agency that the visit follows directives from the Peace and Security Council and will last several days.
The delegation includes technical staff from the AU Center for Epidemic Control to assess medical and health needs, including measures to combat dengue fever. Commissioner Twumasi is scheduled to meet with government officials and will be accompanied by Sudanese officials and representatives of the UN Economic Commission for Africa.
Upon arrival at Port Sudan airport, she was received by Sudan’s Acting Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Idris Ismail.
