Prime Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Supporting and Developing the Agricultural Sector

Prime Minister Dr. Kamel Idris has reiterated the Hope Government’s commitment to supporting and developing the agricultural sector, describing it as a cornerstone for achieving the country’s economic development.

This came during his meeting on Wednesday with Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Prof. Dr. Ismat Qureshi Abdullah, who briefed the Prime Minister on his recent visit to the Northern State to assess preparations for the winter farming season and address the challenges facing its success.

The Minister noted that the Northern State is preparing to cultivate over one million feddans this winter season — including 300,000 feddans for wheat and 100,000 feddans for Egyptian beans — in a move expected to strengthen the country’s food security.

He also informed the Prime Minister about his inspection visit to Nile Poultry Company, a subsidiary of the Ministry’s Agricultural Development Authority, highlighting the company’s major achievements and its ongoing role in social responsibility programs in the Northern and River Nile States. He added that the company plans to expand its irrigated agricultural projects in Gezira, Rahad, Suki, and Fao schemes.
