Sudan and Turkey Forge Energy, Oil, and Mining Partnership

Sudanese Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Eng. Consultant Al-Mutasim Ibrahim, announced the signing of productive and strategic partnerships with Turkish company BGM and its U.S. partner ATLAS.
Speaking at Port Sudan Airport upon his return from an official visit to Turkey, the minister said the mission aimed to strengthen international cooperation, revitalize the national economy, and activate bilateral agreements. During the visit, the delegation met with the Turkish state-owned BOTAŞ company, which operates in gas, pipelines, storage, and distribution.
He described the visit as economically and strategically significant, noting that extensive and fruitful negotiations culminated in signing two Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) covering oil and mining, as well as an inclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) defining cooperation in key sectors — notably boosting oil production and developing mining in existing and proposed concession blocks.
The Ministry of Justice and investment authorities presented incentives and legal frameworks to enhance investor confidence and attract sustainable foreign investment.
The two sides also agreed on a forthcoming visit by Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Petroleum to Sudan to continue discussions.
In the electricity sector, agreements were reached with owners of the floating power station in Port Sudan to address financial, technical, and contractual aspects, aiming to reduce power generation costs, improve operational efficiency, and ensure continuity.
The minister revealed an offer from Turkey to supply more than 1,200 electrical transformers to support the national grid and reconstruction efforts linked to citizens’ return.
He described the visit as a turning point in Sudan-Turkey-U.S. economic relations, marking a new era of balanced partnerships based on mutual interests. Implementation steps are already underway under directives from the Council of Ministers.
“We are determined to build strong strategic partnerships that serve the interests of Sudan and its people, and open new horizons for investment and production,” he said.
