Sudan — the Vietnam of our time

By Dr. Salah al-Bandar

Hemeti’s speech, negotiation sessions, the cries of the “steadfast,” the occupation of Bara and El Fasher, videos of death and mass executions — all of it is a new American-Israeli-Emirati domino.

In this era, Sudan is the new Vietnam in the region: there it was under the pretext of fighting communism; here it is under the pretext of fighting “extremist Islamists.”

I remember the sanctions on Jibril, Al-Misbah, and the Bara’ Brigades, the statement of the Quartet and their deliberations… all part of a political operation prepared in Abu Dhabi to subdue the army, the state and the people to the Emirati vision for a political solution in Sudan — summarized in the Quartet’s statement, and that is not what happened!

What is unfolding is a drama written by a mocking, derisive devil; yet what is happening is the naked truth and the core of human nature…

Here, the language of money and petrodollars has prevailed; a new model is taking shape in the region — a new Zionism whose backbone is the Arabs of the diaspora, new states built on the shoulders of mercenaries who cross continents: modern colonialism in an upgraded version from inside the tents of Abu Dhabi.

Shipping companies, supply relocation, via ships and planes, and extraordinary procedures — the war economy has surpassed twenty billion dollars!

Unfortunately, we are fighting an empire that never loses sight of numbers — an empire of networks of interests, money and business, with a web of spies and agents everywhere: journalists, writers, activists, and women journalists in Port Sudan and Cairo.

We were defeated from within first… Political elites who were unequal to the challenge…

Their eyes were not on Bannusa, El Fasher, Dalanj or Al-Obeid, but on public contracts and gold quadrants, ministries, and their shares of political corruption from the cake… breakfasts and feasts and social events and weddings… forgetting what should not be forgotten, doubts becoming certainties, bickering, political folly… all of them without exception!

The target is Sudan: its history, identity, and institutions… a state whose living citizens are older than a truncated state.*

Dismantling Sudan means isolating Egypt, then dismantling it after the Port Sudan maneuver, and paving the way for greater Israel — from Iraq to Wadi Halfa. No national or pan-Arab states… everything is manufactured and falsified, and serves Israel!!

But… after the fall of Bara and El Fasher, and the frenzied onslaught from the dirham-and-shalom dogs — for the first time in my life I find meaning and cry, and feel that I am on the right side of history. Yes — for the first time in my life I weep, I cannot eat or drink… And will the heart’s tears avail? The loss of loved ones and the ache of longing for my grandfather?! They will not suffice…

We will not become a new generation of “Red Indians” in the pages of modern history. We have a chance to organize, and to network the people with the government — one hand to close the road on the project of domination and subjugation. We will not hand them the Nile, nor the lands, nor the state and the army, nor the gold and uranium mines and livestock wealth. We have a chance to expel them as the Vietnamese rebels expelled 184,000 American soldiers from Vietnam in 1964, after they defeated the project of the informers, just as the Chinese rebels did against the British and the Germans. And we will rise as Japan rose after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Everything is possible with faith, planning and boldness. As we did in Jabal Moyya, Sanja, the Dinder, East Nile and Khartoum, we will do it again in Bara, Al-Nahud, El Fasher, Al-Daein, Al-Geneina, Zalingei and Nyala… This land is ours, not theirs.

But the leadership in Port Sudan must politically, diplomatically and security-wise recover itself, and must find allies in the true sense (political and existential).

Allies against this Emirati bullying, and abandon the policy of playing all sides… No one trusts the mercurial, the hesitant, the cheap trader who bargains away everything… This world stands at a crossroads…

Political uncertainty in everything! Yet the one who prevails will be the most effective, organized and mobile…

No compromise; no dialogue with the scum except… through the rifle. And as Churchill refused to negotiate with the tiger while its head was between his jaws, and mustered the English armies together with the language and sent them to the battlefield — so must Burhan act!

And the martyrs are a fragrance and a balm in the highest gardens with the truthful and the martyrs.
