Somalia’s Federal Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, confirmed that mercenaries are being transported to Sudan through Bosaso Airport in the semi-autonomous state of Puntland.
In a briefing before parliament, Fiqi said that “flights between Bosaso Airport and several airports in Sudan have not stopped,” adding that these flights are carrying mercenaries to a country whose people are facing genocide, as he put it.
Earlier media reports revealed the transfer of Colombian mercenaries through Bosaso to fight alongside the Rapid Support Forces against the Sudanese army. The Colombian president has since acknowledged that nationals from his country are participating in the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
An investigation published by Middle East Eye on October 31 cited flight tracking data, satellite images, and testimonies from local sources and U.S. and regional diplomats, confirming that planes transporting weapons and mercenaries through Bosaso on behalf of the RSF were linked to the United Arab Emirates.
The outlet also quoted a senior official at Bosaso Port who stated that the UAE had shipped over 500,000 containers through the port to the city’s airport over the past two years. These containers reportedly bore hazardous material markings and lacked origin data or content details — a clear violation of standard shipping protocols.
