A doctor with the Preliminary Committee of the Sudanese Doctors’ Syndicate revealed on Thursday that 11 women were transferred to hospital after being raped in the town of Bara, North Kordofan State, following the Rapid Support Forces’ (RSF) takeover of the city.
Dr. Adeeba Ibrahim El-Sayed, an internal medicine and epidemiology specialist and a member of the Omdurman branch of the committee, told Sudan Tribune that “11 women were raped by RSF fighters in Bara.”
She said the victims had been transferred to El-Obeid Hospital for medical treatment.
El-Sayed added that the committee had documented 354 cases of chickenpox, 212 measles infections, and 165 cases of rubella in the region.
She also spoke of mounting challenges facing hospitals and health centers, including overcrowding, lack of medicines, shortage of medical staff, and poor sanitary conditions.
El-Sayed urged the Ministry of Health to improve hospital environments, provide essential medicines, and reduce hospital fees, calling on international and humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently to curb the spread of epidemics and save patients.
