Urgent Appeal in French Parliament to Halt Genocide in Sudan and Sanction RSF Backers

During a plenary session of the French Parliament, one MP delivered a powerful address warning of escalating crimes against civilians in Darfur, describing events in Sudan as an “ongoing genocide by bullets” since the fall of El Fasher to the RSF (Janjaweed).

The lawmaker said Sudan faces a major humanitarian catastrophe, with civilians enduring killings, rapes, and mass displacement. He noted that videos and images of atrocities are being posted by perpetrators themselves, depicting a “human safari” of field executions and celebratory violence.

He cited figures of over 150,000 killed since April 2023, 16 million displaced, and widespread famine, including the killing of around 500 civilians inside El Fasher’s maternity hospital days earlier, and reports of refugees in Gouroum camp forced to pay ransom for detained relatives.

The MP condemned the silence of European capitals over the United Arab Emirates’ role in arming the RSF, calling it “an unacceptable complicity,” and criticized global media indifference to Sudan’s suffering.

“Every life is precious. Ignoring Africa’s victims is a denial of our shared humanity,” he said.

He urged the French government to take concrete steps, including:

Protecting civilians fleeing to Tawila after the El Fasher massacre,

Supporting safe humanitarian corridors,

Pressuring partners — especially the UAE — to halt arms supplies to the RSF, and

Working to end the fighting and launch a political peace process in Sudan.

He concluded his remarks with a quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu: “Please, recognize that we are human too.”

The French Foreign Minister is expected to respond to the MP’s questions regarding France’s planned measures on Sudan, amid rising calls for international sanctions and accountability for both perpetrators and their sponsors.
