Energy Minister Inspects Completion of Ten New Strategic Fuel Depots

The Minister of Energy, Engineer Adviser Al-Mu’tasim Ibrahim Ahmed, emphasized the need to expand the country’s fuel storage capacities amid exceptional circumstances following the recent attacks that targeted Sudan’s petroleum facilities, particularly storage depots.

During an inspection visit on Sunday to the newly completed strategic depots of Nile Petroleum Company, which are nearing operational readiness, the minister praised the efforts of Nile Petroleum employees for achieving this milestone entirely through Sudanese expertise — a collaboration between the Sudanese Pipeline Company and Nile Petroleum.

He affirmed the ministry’s commitment to supporting its skilled workforce and ensuring a suitable working environment, taking into account the challenging conditions under which these projects are being executed.

For his part, Dr. Hisham Taj Al-Sir, General Manager of Nile Petroleum, revealed that four new depots for gasoline and diesel have been constructed, each with a capacity of one million liters, in addition to a fifth tank with a two-million-liter water capacity for fire control, equipped with a comprehensive firefighting station and safety systems.

Furthermore, six horizontal LPG tanks have been built, each with a capacity of 100 tons, with work underway to add four more — bringing the total gas storage capacity to 1,000 tons.
These new facilities provide multiple loading platforms to enhance distribution flexibility, with plans to accommodate an additional 10 million liters soon, raising Nile Petroleum’s total storage capacity to 14 million liters of fuel.

It is noteworthy that Nile Petroleum lost four depots in drone attacks last May, in addition to other facilities damaged during the same incidents.
