Joint Forces: Talk of Ceasefire Amid Militia Occupation of Civilian Facilities Is “Sanitizing Violence”

The Joint Forces have deemed any discussion of a humanitarian ceasefire while the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia occupies residential neighborhoods, hospitals, and civilian facilities as “sanitizing violence” and a repositioning of the aggressor under the banner of peace.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Joint Forces expressed deep concern over proposals related to a “humanitarian truce,” noting that war crimes and acts of genocide committed by the RSF and its mercenaries continue unabated. The latest of these atrocities were the horrific massacres in Al-Fashir, which claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians.

The statement emphasized that talks of a truce or humanitarian ceasefire while cities remain occupied and the RSF continues to operate inside residential areas, hospitals, and civilian facilities amount to nothing more than cosmetic violence and a strategic repositioning of the aggressor under the guise of peace.

The Joint Forces stressed that a genuine ceasefire does not begin with statements but with the withdrawal of attacking forces, protection of civilians, and accountability for perpetrators. They highlighted that civilian protection, documentation of genocide, and safe return of displaced persons are the only credible foundations for any peace process.

The statement warned against ignoring the realities on the ground in discussions of a ceasefire, as doing so could lead to yet another catastrophe.

The Joint Forces also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities regarding the situation in Darfur, particularly in Al-Fashir, which has been entirely cut off by militia and mercenary forces, worsening the suffering of civilians.

They urged accountability for states and entities continuing to fund and arm the militia despite clear evidence of crimes, reaffirming their solidarity with the Sudanese people in their struggle for dignity, justice, and national unity.
