The World Food Programme (WFP) confirmed on Sunday that Sudan is facing the world’s worst food crisis, with famine spreading in the cities of Kadugli in South Kordofan and El Fasher in North Darfur.
In its latest humanitarian update, WFP said hunger is deepening across Sudan, noting that the country is grappling with the world’s most severe food emergency amid restricted access to civilians, particularly in hotspots witnessing active military operations.
The warning comes just days after Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher concluded a visit to Sudan.
WFP did not outline its plans to reach hunger-stricken populations in conflict zones between Kordofan and Darfur. Meanwhile, Fletcher, who wrapped up his field visit to Sudan in mid-November 2025, stressed the need to ensure civilian protection and allow aid into conflict-affected areas without delay.
