Moscow: No New Developments on Russian Naval Base in Sudan

Russia’s ambassador to Sudan, Andrey Chernovol, said there have been no new developments regarding the establishment of a Russian naval base in Sudan.

Speaking to TASS, Chernovol stated that a report published by The Wall Street Journal on Monday—claiming Sudan had offered Russia a chance to establish a base—was based on a 2020 proposal.

He said the document signed at the time is publicly available and still requires ratification.

“At this stage, everything is on hold, and no progress has been made,” he added. “At least, I am not aware of any. So speaking of new developments is, at the very least, premature.”
