Sudanese Army Advances in South Kordofan, Nearing SPLM-N Stronghold in Al-Abbasiya

The army on Tuesday seized control of the strategic town of Mabsouta, advancing toward Al-Moreib, considered the stronghold of the SPLM–North in Al-Abbasiya Tagali, South Kordofan.

Videos posted by army soldiers on social media showed Sudanese Armed Forces present in Mabsouta—an area held by the SPLM–North for 14 years.

Military sources expect the army to continue its offensive to retake Al-Moreib, the movement’s main base in South Kordofan’s eastern mountains.

Vista, a platform specializing in conflict-mapping, reported widespread fires in Al-Moreib, where SPLM–North fighters and RSF units withdrew after leaving Mabsouta. The platform suggested the fires were likely caused by army artillery strikes targeting the fighters’ positions.
