UK-based Organization: Sudan Facing Its Harshest Humanitarian Crisis

The British aid group Human Appeal said Sudan is facing “one of the most complex and severe humanitarian crises in its modern history,” amid an unprecedented collapse of humanitarian operations and declining international response capacity. The group stressed it is scaling up its field presence to deliver lifesaving support to millions of affected Sudanese.

In a statement published by Al Jazeera, the organization said more than 25 million Sudanese are facing acute food insecurity, with millions of families on the brink of famine.

It noted that vast regions are experiencing a severe humanitarian vacuum due to insecurity, the expansion of armed conflict, and limited access for relief workers. Administrative hurdles, the breakdown of state institutions, and the destruction of infrastructure have disrupted the flow of critical supplies and raised operational costs, creating one of the world’s largest funding gaps relative to humanitarian needs.

Human Appeal highlighted that mass displacement, communication blackouts, and disrupted supply chains have further complicated relief efforts, making humanitarian access exceptionally difficult.

The group said it continues large-scale operations across multiple states, relying on specialized field teams working under extreme conditions to reach the most vulnerable families. It also announced the launch of a “Sudan Emergency Fund” aimed at supporting millions affected by the conflict now entering its third year.
