Growing U.S. Pressure to End Sudan’s War, With ‘Decisive Measures’ Expected

Diplomatic sources say the U.S. administration is preparing to take “decisive measures” to end the war in Sudan before the end of the year, following President Donald Trump’s announcement that Washington is working to halt the conflict in response to a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

An African Union official and a Western diplomat told Sudan Tribune that the U.S. is conducting intensive efforts based on a three-track roadmap: military, humanitarian, and political.

According to sources cited by Al Arabiya, the plan includes steps mirroring those taken against the Syrian regime, including the possibility of additional restrictions, asset freezes, and immediate sanctions targeting individuals and networks fueling the war.

The diplomat also revealed preparations for a comprehensive accountability dossier focusing heavily on atrocities in Darfur.

He denied recent claims that a “second proposal” had been submitted to the Sudanese army regarding a ceasefire, clarifying that the army chief had recently received only a response from the Cairo-based coordination team — and that he has “now understood everything.”
