ICC to Issue Judgment in Ali Kushayb Case on Tuesday

Legal and human rights circles, along with victims of the Darfur conflict, are awaiting the judgment session in the case of the Prosecutor v. Ali Kushayb, to be held by Trial Chamber I of the International Criminal Court next Tuesday.

The ICC has convicted Ali Kushayb, a leader in the Janjaweed militia, of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur—marking the first conviction of its kind since the conflict erupted more than two decades ago, claiming hundreds of thousands of lives in the Sudanese region.

The session will be held publicly in Courtroom I at the ICC headquarters, where judges are expected to announce the sentencing decision after months of hearings and testimonies from victims and expert witnesses.
