Finance Minister Vows Support for Agricultural Bank to Help Stabilize the Economy

Minister of Finance Dr. Jibril Ibrahim chaired on Monday the General Assembly meeting of the Agricultural Bank of Sudan, attended by the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank and members of the assembly.
The meeting discussed several strategic issues related to strengthening the bank’s performance and developing its vital role in supporting the advancement of the agricultural sector—one of the main pillars of the national economy.
The minister commended the bank’s efforts, describing it as a strategic institution capable of driving the country’s agricultural transformation and supporting national aspirations to make Sudan a food basket for the region and the world, given its vast natural resources and promising production potential.
Discussions also covered increasing the bank’s capital and expanding its ability to provide agricultural financing, thereby enhancing its support for farmers and producers throughout all stages of the agricultural cycle. The assembly also addressed the challenges related to loan defaults by some farmers and their impact on the bank’s sustainability, stressing the need for effective mechanisms, improved repayment culture, and stronger contractual compliance.
The meeting reviewed financial and administrative performance reports, along with observations from internal and external auditors, to reinforce transparency and good governance.
Members also assessed key performance indicators, strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improving operational efficiency and strengthening the bank’s financial position.
Future development plans were examined, including institutional and technological modernization, expanding branch networks, and improving geographic reach to serve more farmers across Sudan. These efforts aim to boost production, support food security, and stimulate agricultural exports.
Dr. Ibrahim reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Agricultural Bank, enhancing its capacity, and enabling it to play a more effective role in driving economic transformation and sustainable development—benefiting citizens and farmers across all of Sudan’s states.
