A senior official at the Khartoum State Ministry of Health said the Forensic Authority has managed to collect and remove 15,000 bodies from neighborhoods and schools since April 2024.
The official told Sudan Tribune that the Forensic Authority plans to declare Khartoum free of all graves outside designated cemeteries by mid-2026.
He noted that RSF forces had previously compelled civilians in areas under their control to bury their dead within residential districts and schoolyards due to the availability of open spaces.
Sudan Tribune reported that the campaign to collect and relocate bodies began last week in Khartoum locality and later expanded to Khartoum Bahri on Thursday, under the supervision of the High Committee for the Collection of Remains from what it calls the “Battle of Dignity.”
Hisham Zain Al-Abidin, director of the Forensic Authority, said relocating the remains to proper burial sites is an act of dignity, emphasizing the importance of ensuring that no grave remains outside official cemeteries in Khartoum State.
