The United Kingdom imposed sanctions on four Rapid Support Forces commanders on Friday for their involvement in mass killings, systematic sexual violence, and deliberate attacks on civilians in Sudan.
The British government said that Abdelrahim Hamdan Dagalo—RSF deputy commander—along with three other leaders suspected of involvement in these crimes, will have their assets frozen and be banned from travel.
According to the UK statement, the other sanctioned individuals are:
Geddo Hamdan Ahmed, RSF commander in North Darfur
Brigadier Al-Fatih Abdullah Idris
Field commander Tijani Ibrahim Musa Mohammed
The four commanders are accused of deliberately targeting civilians in El Fasher, committing ethnically and religiously motivated violence, attacking medical and humanitarian workers, carrying out systematic rape, kidnapping for ransom, and conducting arbitrary arrests.
The British government called for an immediate end to atrocities, protection of civilians, and removal of all obstacles to humanitarian access.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper said the abuses being committed in Sudan “are so horrific they shock the conscience of the world,” adding that the sanctions “directly target those with blood on their hands.”
The UK also pledged £21 million to provide food, shelter, healthcare, and protection for women and children in some of the hardest-to-reach areas.
