During the visit of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to Egypt, Cairo reaffirmed its full support for international efforts aimed at achieving security, stability, and peace in Sudan, foremost among them the vision adopted by U.S. President Donald Trump to end conflicts and prevent escalation in global hotspots.
In an official statement issued on the occasion, Egypt expressed deep concern over the continued escalation and security deterioration in Sudan and the resulting massacres and grave human rights violations against civilians, particularly in the city of El Fasher, stressing that these developments pose a direct threat to social peace and regional stability.
Cairo emphasized the existence of red lines that must not be crossed, as they directly affect Egyptian national security, which it said is closely linked to Sudanese national security. Chief among these red lines is Egypt’s firm commitment to preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity and its absolute rejection of any attempts to undermine state resources or allow the secession of any part of its territory.
Egypt also reiterated its categorical rejection of the establishment or recognition of any parallel entities, warning that such steps undermine Sudan’s sovereignty and threaten its national unity.
The statement further affirmed that protecting Sudanese state institutions and preventing any harm to them constitutes another red line, stressing Egypt’s full right to take all measures permitted under international law, in addition to provisions of the joint defense agreement between the two countries, to ensure these lines are not crossed.
In conclusion, Cairo stressed its commitment to continuing work within the framework of the international quartet to reach a humanitarian truce that would pave the way for a comprehensive ceasefire, including the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors and shelters to protect Sudanese civilians, in full coordination with Sudanese state institutions.
According to observers, Egypt’s position reflects Cairo’s efforts to reinforce a regional equation aimed at preventing the disintegration of the Sudanese state and containing the repercussions of the war on Red Sea security and Egypt’s southern borders amid increasing regional and international complexities surrounding the Sudanese crisis.
