Gezira Scheme: Emergency Plan to Meet Winter Crop Irrigation Needs

The Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa Ali, announced the launch of an emergency plan to meet the water requirements of winter season crops.
He revealed that more than 100 machines have been deployed to remove silt and weeds, including long- and short-arm excavators, currently operating across all sections of the scheme. He pledged to continue addressing irrigation challenges along canals, channels, and watercourses by removing silt and weeds and installing water control structures at main regulators, canals, and Abu Ishreenat.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Irrigation Department at the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Mohammed Othman Al-Awad, announced the completion of cleaning works on 289 canals and 31 main channels across the Gezira and Managil sections.
He reassured farmers in the fields that the department will continue to deploy additional machinery to clean canals and waterways to ensure sustainable irrigation at farm level. He noted that a total of 39,760 gallons of diesel fuel have been supplied to excavation machinery.
It is worth noting that the number of machines currently operating in silt and weed removal across canals and waterways in the scheme stands at approximately 103 excavators.
