Prime Minister: We Are Working to Build a Comprehensive National Project

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris attended a briefing meeting organized by Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, with the Sudanese community in the states of New York and New Jersey.

The Prime Minister praised the pivotal role played by Sudanese communities abroad, stressing that the “Government of Hope” is striving to deliver effective solutions to establish peace by sending important messages to the international community. He thanked friendly and sisterly countries, as well as all those engaged in the peace process, and reviewed the outcomes of his meetings with the President and members of the UN Security Council and a number of senior UN officials.

He noted that Sudan’s government peace initiative has been well received as the first purely national initiative, complementary and consistent with other efforts. He also pointed to other positive developments, including international recognition of the existence of a civilian government that addressed the UN General Assembly last September and is now engaging the Security Council. He explained that the statement submitted included a request for the Council to adopt and implement the initiative, and to assume its responsibility for maintaining international peace and security, as well as its moral responsibility regarding what is happening in Sudan.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the positive reactions from African member states of the Security Council, commending the strong sympathy and support Sudan has received amid what he described as an existential war imposed on the country.

In a related context, he said the coming period will witness intensified diplomatic activity within regional organizations to which Sudan belongs, particularly the African Union, taking into account Sudan’s status as a founding state of the Organization of African Unity and an active and influential member of the African Union. He affirmed that the Government of Hope is working to build a comprehensive national project and institutions based on the rule of law, paving the way for an inclusive Sudanese–Sudanese dialogue—excluding no one—on how Sudan should be governed. He also pointed to the implementation by relevant authorities of sovereign directives to lift restrictions on the issuance of civil documentation.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris expressed his thanks and appreciation to the heads and members of the Sudanese community in New York and New Jersey for their continued support of national causes through protest activities. He noted the mission’s success in arranging a Security Council meeting ahead of the Christmas holidays and affirmed its readiness to face anticipated challenges in 2026, in light of a different composition of the Council.
