Inspection and Hallmarking of Five Tons of Gold in River Nile State

The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO), River Nile State sector, has revealed that 5.201643 tons of gold—both bullion and manufactured jewelry—were inspected and hallmarked between January and December 2025.

The sector’s director, Dr. Ahmed Sayed Ahmed Omar, said that around 67 companies from across Sudan are currently operating in the sector, noting that all technical procedures are carried out through the organization’s gold hallmarking department.

He added that the Cabinet’s decision to designate the SSMO as the official technical reference and competent authority in the field represents a positive step toward regulating gold movement and strengthening the organization’s supervisory role.

Dr. Omar explained that the hallmarking department’s mandate includes analyzing, testing, and stamping precious metals, issuing manufacturing and calibration certificates, and monitoring gold markets through inspection and awareness campaigns.
