Sudan: Cancellation of Electricity Tariff Increase

The Ministry of Energy announced the issuance of urgent ministerial directives to cancel the recent decision to raise electricity tariffs.

The decision comes as part of a review of service policies in line with the current conditions faced by citizens, ensuring the continuity of electricity supply at prices that take into account the overall economic situation and ease living burdens during the country’s recovery phase.

Minister of Energy, Engineer and consultant Al-Mu‘tasim Ibrahim, officially directed the cancellation of the tariff increase and the reinstatement of previous rates. He stressed the need to focus in the coming phase on improving service quality and stabilizing electricity supply, noting that providing energy at affordable prices is a top priority to support social stability and productive activity across all Sudanese states.

The Sudan Electricity Company had earlier announced a new increase in electricity tariffs for all consumption sectors starting from the first day of 2026.
