Jibril: Finance Ministry Does Not Compete with the Central Bank
Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Jibril Ibrahim stated that the Ministry of Finance does not compete with the Central Bank of Sudan, nor does the Central Bank compete with the Ministry, as each operates within a clearly defined mandate.
Speaking to the “Al-Shabaka” platform, he emphasized the need for full coordination between the Ministry and the Central Bank to ensure policy coherence.
He explained that fiscal policy affects monetary policy and vice versa, noting that responsibility for managing the macroeconomy lies with the Ministry of Finance. He stressed that there is no room for any party to deviate from agreed-upon policies.
The minister revealed that regular, periodic meetings are held between the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank to continuously coordinate positions, adding that all policies are adopted by consensus. He acknowledged that “some issues may arise from time to time,” but affirmed that both institutions are now operating in full harmony and alignment.
In a related context, Dr. Jibril admitted the depreciation of the national currency against foreign currencies, describing it as a natural outcome of war conditions that have affected production and exports. He stressed that the only solution to the growing phenomenon of gold smuggling lies in adopting encouraging policies and offering fair, attractive prices.
