The Darfur Community Associations in the United Kingdom called on the international community, the United Nations, the UN Security Council, the African Union, and all human rights organizations to take urgent and effective action to protect civilians and halt crimes committed by the militia against the civilian population.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group demanded the launch of independent international investigations to hold those responsible for the crimes—and their supporters—accountable.
The association said that international silence in the face of these crimes amounts to indirect complicity and gives perpetrators a green light to continue killing innocent civilians.
According to the statement, after implementing its plan in El Fasher, the militia moved westward as part of completing what it described as a genocidal scheme. The areas of “Kulbus,” “Kerenik,” “Ambro,” and “Abu Qumra” reportedly witnessed systematic killings targeting dozens of unarmed innocent civilians on an ethnic basis.
The statement added that the area of “Jirjira” witnessed another crime yesterday, claiming the lives of 30 civilians, including children and women, reflecting a continued pattern of mass killing and ethnic cleansing.
The Darfur associations in the UK said they are closely monitoring these grave developments and are working to brief and inform international and regional human rights organizations, as well as international lawyers, of all updates related to war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Sudan, in preparation for holding perpetrators accountable and preventing impunity.
The statement further warned that the militia had previously committed crimes in El Fasher that rise to the level of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, resulting in the killing of more than 75,000 civilians, while approximately 150,000 people remain missing, following the militia’s takeover and widespread abuses in the city along narrow ethnic and regional lines.
