The United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said on Monday that High Commissioner Volker Türk is set to visit eastern and northern Sudan for four days starting Wednesday, without including Darfur in his itinerary.
In a statement, the Office said that “UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk will visit Sudan from January 14 to 18.”
It added that Türk will hold meetings with government officials in the eastern city of Port Sudan, as well as with representatives of civil society and the United Nations country team.
The statement noted that Türk will also visit Northern State, including the Al-Afafid shelter center near the city of Al-Dabbah, where he will meet people displaced by the conflict in Darfur and Kordofan, in addition to humanitarian partners.
According to the statement, Türk will hold a press conference on January 18 in Port Sudan, followed by another in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi.
