River Nile State Governor Reviews Expansion Works at Atbara Airport

The Governor of River Nile State, Dr. Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdelmajid Abuqaroun, affirmed that the Atbara Airport development project is one of the state government’s strategic projects.
This came during his meeting at his office in Ad-Damer with the leadership of Mina Group for Multi-Activities, headed by Al-Sadiq Osman Mohamed Saleh, Chairman of the Group’s Board of Directors, in the presence of members of the Higher Committee for Airport Development. Attendees included Osman Abdelrahim Amara, Minister of Investment, Industry, Mining, Quarries and Tourism; Engineer Samir Saeed Abdullah, Minister of Infrastructure; Engineer Abdelwahab Ahmed, Airport Director and rapporteur of the Higher Committee; Abdullah Al-Sa’im, Head of the Financial Committee for Development; and Mudathir Al-Misbah, Director of Public Relations at the airport and a member of the Higher Committee.
The governor noted that the airport represents the state’s main gateway to global markets, given the abundance of products the state is known for. He added that the state government has declared this year as the launch year for exports from River Nile State, which explains the focus on developing and expanding Atbara Airport to elevate it to the level of international airports capable of handling export and import traffic.
He praised Mina Group’s seriousness, commitment to international standards and quality, and speed of implementation, noting that the group is among the largest companies and has extensive experience in airport construction. The governor expressed his satisfaction with the significant transformation and major leap the airport has witnessed following the development works, saying: “We can now confidently say that we have an airport comparable to international airports in terms of capacity and quality. It will have a substantial impact on boosting the national and state economy and will contribute to the renaissance, development, and progress of the state across various fields.”
For their part, the leadership of Mina Group for Multi-Activities expressed their deep appreciation to the state government, led by the governor, for the warm welcome and support extended to them in the Atbara Airport development project. They reaffirmed their commitment to completing the project in line with global airport standards to serve the country in general and River Nile State in particular. They also expressed their willingness to invest in several sectors and to place their experience—especially in exports—at the disposal of the state government in support of the state’s development and progress.
