Minawi: The UAE Is Seeking to Take Over Sudan

The Governor of the Darfur Region and leader of the Sudan Liberation Movement, Minni Arko Minawi, warned on Monday that Sudan could slide into chaos marked by multiple rival governments if negotiations over a humanitarian truce are conducted with the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) treated as two separate governments.

Speaking to Darfur24, Minawi said there are clear indications of determined efforts to impose a fait accompli by establishing two governments in the country. He cautioned that any move toward negotiations on that basis would lead to widespread disorder, stressing that the situation would not stop at two governments in the east and west of Sudan, but could result in the emergence of several smaller administrations.

Minawi reaffirmed his movement’s firm commitment to peace, adding, “We are not against a truce, but any truce that is negotiated must be clear.”

He accused the United Arab Emirates of seeking to take control of Sudan, or at the very least dominate its western regions through its allies. He further stated that what unites the RSF and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement is an attempt to impose a fait accompli in Darfur and South Kordofan.
