Sudanese Foreign Ministry Considers Evacuating Nationals from Yemen via Land Routes

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that it has begun planning to evacuate Sudanese nationals from Yemen via land routes, following the suspension of air traffic at Aden International Airport.

In a press statement, the ministry stressed that the return of Sudanese citizens from Yemen and other countries tops its list of priorities, affirming that it is working to implement evacuation plans through the safest means possible to ensure citizens’ safety and dignity. This, it said, stems from its firm responsibility toward caring for Sudanese abroad and providing necessary consular services.

The ministry added that “safeguarding the interests and safety of Sudanese citizens overseas and delivering consular services to them constitute a permanent priority for the work of Sudanese embassies and missions abroad.”

It further noted that it is conducting intensive communications with the relevant Yemeni authorities to explore evacuation options, explaining that the current difficulties facing air evacuation have prompted the ministry to consider alternative solutions, foremost among them organizing a comprehensive land evacuation.

The statement confirmed that the ministry is closely monitoring the situation of Sudanese community members across various regions of Yemen, noting that the Sudanese embassy remains in constant contact with citizens in both the north and south. Prior to the latest escalation, the embassy had been studying the feasibility of facilitating the return of those wishing to go back to Sudan.
