Interior Minister Criticizes International Silence Over Supplying Militia With Military Equipment

Interior Minister Lt. Gen. (Police) Babiker Samra Mustafa criticized what he described as the international community’s silence regarding the flow of weapons into the Darfur region and the provision of military equipment to the rebel militia by what he said were known countries.

He said this has led to grave violations against civilians, the latest of which he described as the El Fasher massacre.

On Wednesday, the Interior Minister met with the UN Panel of Experts delegation on Darfur. He said discussions covered the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1591 and the need to halt arms supplies to the region, noting the failure of some neighboring countries to comply with the measure.

He pointed to what he described as large quantities of advanced weapons flowing into the region, alleging that support and supply were being provided by the United Arab Emirates through Libya, forces affiliated with Haftar, Chad, and African ports.

He added that this was happening in full view of the international community, whose silence toward those countries, he said, constitutes a crime against the Sudanese people.

The minister said the Sudanese government is working through two committees to protect civilians and address the situation of displaced persons, adding that their conditions are being monitored through specialized committees to provide essential services, particularly education and health.

He noted that the government had briefed the UN experts’ delegation on what he described as serious violations committed by the rebel militia against unarmed civilians in all their forms, including detailed reports and complaints.

The minister expressed hope that the delegation’s report would reflect neutrality and present the facts to the international community.
