Recent satellite imagery captured on February 4 revealed two burned areas inside and around Nyala International Airport in South Darfur State, Sudan, according to analysis by intelligence and security researcher Rish Tiede.
Tiede said one of the burned areas is located near the airport’s main runway, noting that NASA had previously detected fires in the same area. The larger burned zone is located just outside the airport perimeter.
The analysis suggests the fires may have resulted from airstrikes carried out by the Sudanese Armed Forces against Rapid Support Forces positions, as Nyala Airport is considered a strategically important site.
