Minawi Reveals Committee to Prepare Proposals for Forming Sudan’s Transitional Legislative Council

Sudanese political circles are anticipating concrete steps in the coming period toward the formation of the Transitional Legislative Council, as part of efforts to complete the structures of the civilian transition, amid growing calls to rebuild state institutions and strengthen oversight and accountability mechanisms.

This comes against the backdrop of an ongoing legislative vacuum since the outbreak of the war, which observers say has contributed to weak oversight of the executive branch and a decline in institutional control over government performance.

In this context, Minni Arko Minawi, head of the Political Committee of the Democratic Bloc, revealed the formation of a specialized committee tasked with developing proposals for the establishment of the legislative council, paving the way for agreement on its structure and composition in the next phase.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Council of the Coordination of National Forces, during its regular meeting on Friday, called for accelerating the formation of the legislative council, describing it as a cornerstone of the transitional period.

For his part, Mohamed Sid Ahmed Al-Jakoumi, head of the Coordination of National Forces, emphasized that the legislative council is one of the most important pillars of the transition, as it ensures accountability and oversight of the executive government, contributes to correcting its performance, and enables its dismissal should it deviate from the correct path.
