Gezira Scheme Moves Toward Expanding Cotton Cultivation
The Governor of the Gezira Scheme, Engineer Ibrahim Mustafa, discussed areas of joint cooperation between the project and the Sudan Cotton Company during a meeting at his office in Port Sudan on Wednesday with Lieutenant General Nasr Al-Din Abdel Fattah, Director General of the Sudan Cotton Company.
The governor announced that the project’s administration is moving toward expanding cotton cultivation areas during the new agricultural season as part of the Gezira Scheme’s five-year plan, which targets exports of cash crops. He noted that the administration is preparing a matrix of requirements for the upcoming agricultural season early to ensure the desired objectives are achieved.
For his part, the Director General of the Sudan Cotton Company pledged to remove all obstacles facing the provision of financing for cotton cultivation, calling on the Gezira Scheme administration to clearly define its needs. He affirmed that the Cotton Company is placing all its capabilities at the service of farmers in the Gezira Scheme.
