An official at the African Union revealed to Sudan Tribune on Sunday that preparations are underway to resume dialogue among Sudan’s political forces and to address the repercussions of the country’s worsening humanitarian crisis.
Speaking on the sidelines of the African summit hosted in Addis Ababa, the official confirmed that arrangements are being made for a new round of talks, noting that contacts are ongoing with political actors following the conclusion of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government.
He indicated that there are significant developments in the file—without disclosing details—adding: “Following the conclusion of the current summit, we are intensifying contacts with political forces to resume the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue.”
In the same context, other sources told Sudan Tribune that a new approach is being advanced by the current Chairperson of the African Union, Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye. According to the sources, the initiative’s key features include securing an immediate humanitarian truce leading to a comprehensive ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive Sudanese dialogue.
