Satellite Images Show Continued Operations at RSF Camp in Libyan Desert

Recent satellite imagery has documented the continued military activity of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) at a site under their control in southeastern Libya, near the Sudanese border.

The images, obtained by Al Jazeera’s Digital Investigations Unit and covering the past several months up to the latest capture on February 11, reveal noticeable changes in the positioning of vehicles within the camp, confirming that it remains actively operational.

Visual analysis of the site indicates the presence of significant numbers of transport trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles, in addition to leveled areas that appear designated for storage and logistical support.

Data suggest that the site has been operational since at least March 2025, with clear signs of continued movement and activity up to recent days.

The findings align with an investigation published in July 2025 by the Centre for Information Resilience, which documented footage of RSF fighters inside a desert camp. The organization was able at the time to precisely geolocate the camp by matching terrain features, road networks, and vehicle distribution.

According to the analysis, visual tracking identified similarities between vehicles at the Libyan site and those previously seen in footage documenting attacks on internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the Darfur region. The similarities in paint patterns, military fittings, and field modifications reinforce the hypothesis that the site is being used as a supply base and staging ground for redeployment to battlefronts inside Sudan.

This activity comes amid heightened tensions in the so-called “border triangle” between Sudan, Egypt, and Libya. The Sudanese army has repeatedly criticized what it described as “direct interference” by forces affiliated with retired General Khalifa Haftar in the conflict, accusing them of facilitating RSF operations.
