Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris announced that he presented the Sudanese government’s national peace initiative during his participation in the Munich Conference. At the same time, he affirmed Sudan’s welcome of the “tripartite initiative” led by the United States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, while excluding the United Arab Emirates.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Idris revealed that his government had secured international support on several issues, including humanitarian and health-related tracks, on the sidelines of meetings with international organizations during the conference over the past few days.
He said he held a series of meetings with international organizations amid what he described as the country’s “exceptional circumstances,” noting that these organizations unanimously agreed to Sudan’s demands related to migration issues and support for civilians affected by the war.
The Prime Minister explained that his government presented what he described as “evidence” to international organizations regarding unprecedented war crimes targeting civilians during the ongoing conflict in the country, stressing that the war “was imposed on Sudan,” and that the government is adopting a peace-oriented approach and seeking to end the conflict.
Regarding the health sector, Idris announced that the World Health Organization had approved Sudan’s requests to support the health system, noting that his government requested the organization’s support in efforts to eradicate malaria from the country, not merely to combat it or treat its symptoms.
During his participation in the Munich Conference, Idris reiterated the Sudanese government’s position that the Rapid Support Forces are a “terrorist organization” and “militias and gangs,” in his words, stating that they were once part of the state but, following their dissolution, have become fragmented groups and militias.
