60 Killed and Injured in Shelling of Dilling by RSF and al-Hilu Movement

Nine people were killed and 51 others injured after artillery shelling struck the city of Dilling on Thursday, carried out by the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North faction led by Abdelaziz al-Hilu. The bombardment targeted the Mek North neighborhood, the Al-Turuq area, the Schools District, and the central market.

In a statement, the Sudan Doctors Network said the injured had been transferred to medical facilities for treatment, while shelling continued to hit several residential neighborhoods, raising fears that the civilian death toll could increase.

The Sudan Doctors Network strongly condemned the targeting of civilian objects, markets, and gathering places for civilians in the city of Dilling, describing it as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits attacks on civilians and populated areas. The network stressed that the deliberate shelling of residential neighborhoods and markets constitutes a war crime that deepens the suffering of citizens and further worsens the humanitarian situation in the city.

The Sudan Doctors Network held the Rapid Support Forces and the SPLM-North faction led by al-Hilu fully responsible for these violations. It called on the international community, as well as UN and human rights organizations, to take urgent action to halt the deliberate shelling of civilians and to pressure the leadership of the RSF and the SPLM-North to deter them and prevent the continuation of such massacres, while ensuring the protection of civilians.
