First Export Certificate for Gum Arabic Issued to Germany

The Director-General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, Rahba Saeed Abdullah, confirmed that the authority is moving steadily to strengthen the competitive advantage of Sudanese products in regional and global markets.

She stated that this is being achieved through the application of approved standard specifications, strict technical oversight, and the development of laboratory infrastructure to ensure that Sudanese exports comply with international quality and safety requirements.

Abdullah emphasized that standardization is viewed as a strategic tool for supporting the national economy and expanding access to external markets. She noted that compliance with standards not only protects consumers but also strengthens the confidence of trading partners in Sudanese products and reinforces their reputation as competitive, high-quality goods.

She added that the authority has intensified efforts to upgrade laboratories and enhance the efficiency of technical staff, while also accelerating inspection procedures and the issuance of conformity certificates to keep pace with international trade requirements and reduce time and costs for exporters.

In the same context, Engineer Khalid Ibrahim, Director of the Authority’s Qari and Containers Branch, announced that the branch has issued its first export certificate for gum arabic to the Federal Republic of Germany.

The shipment—amounting to 132 tons, equivalent to 5,280 sacks—was approved after comprehensive testing and analysis in the branch’s laboratories. Ibrahim described the step as a practical beginning toward improving technical operations and strengthening the branch’s capacity in testing and analyzing strategic commodities.

He added that the move represents a valuable milestone in the development of the branch’s laboratories and reflects its growing technical readiness to handle national exports in accordance with international standards. Efforts will continue to expand laboratory services to support exporters, accelerate export procedures, and enhance the position of Sudanese products in global markets.
