Minister Reveals 2,500 Cases of Violations Against Women

The Minister of State for Human Resources and Social Development, Salima Ishaq, has revealed that 2,500 women have been subjected to serious violations by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia since the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023.

Speaking to Ultra Sudan on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the minister said the figure does not reflect the actual number of violations committed by RSF forces against women, noting that the announced statistics represent only a portion of cases that reached health service facilities.

Ishaq stressed that ensuring women and girls have access to justice is not only a legal obligation, but also a fundamental condition for achieving sustainable peace and human dignity.

She also affirmed Sudan’s commitment to strengthening legal and institutional systems to protect women and girls, thereby reinforcing their role as essential partners in building society.

United Nations agencies and human rights groups have accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing widespread abuses against civilians since the outbreak of the war in Sudan.
