The Emergency Lawyers group on Monday called on the Rapid Support Forces to disclose the whereabouts of female activists detained in Nyala, Darfur State, amid fears they may be subjected to torture.
In a statement, a faction dismissed from the group’s executive office demanded that the RSF “immediately reveal the locations of the forcibly disappeared detainees, release them unconditionally, and allow their families and lawyers to communicate with them without restrictions.”
The statement also called for an end to the targeting of activists and human rights defenders.
It noted that the RSF continues to detain Mawahib Ibrahim, Izdihar Abdel Moneim Hamed, Ishraqa Abdelrahman, Dr. Manahil Mustafa Al-Senousi, and Zahra Mohammed Al-Hassan, who were reportedly arrested from their homes.
According to the statement, the detainees have been transferred to unknown locations, with communication cut off and their families and legal representatives denied access to information about their whereabouts or the ability to contact them as of the date of the statement.
The group stressed that the detention of activists in areas under RSF control heightens the risks they face, particularly in the absence of any functioning judicial system—raising concerns over possible ill-treatment, torture, sexual violence, and deprivation of healthcare and food.
